On The Way
Peer-to-peer ridesharing for Sri Lanka
The problem
Sri Lanka's roads are full of private cars carrying mostly empty seats, while the buses beside them are packed past comfort. With diesel at record prices — 458 LKR per litre — drivers carry the full cost of every trip alone, and commuters carry the discomfort. Both sides lose, every single day.
Our answer
On The Way connects drivers who have empty seats with passengers heading the same direction. It isn't a taxi service — drivers are hosts sharing a route they were already taking, and the fuel cost is split fairly and automatically. Drivers recover their costs; passengers ride in comfort for a fraction of a taxi fare.
